how do I find a operator that has a head on his shoulders

Here in Colorado the problem is that you can make the same amount of money with better benefits driving for a ready mix company, which is the only thing that has kept me from getting back into pumping. I do miss it though.

You spent a boatload of money just to get your machines right?  So Offer 5 bucks MORE per hour than your competition is paying for a top guy. That is only 40 bucks more a day avg. but if it gets you the right guys.... It is money well spent.

find a guy who seems smart enough,works hard and train him yourself and not disagreeing with other comments but paying more money doesnt always guarantee a good operator

Show them the money.

I once applied for a job driving mixer, They asked for my qualifications.... I said "boom operator". They said if I could operate a boom pump that I had "too many brain cells" and was over qualified to drive mixer.

we have found a couple young ones that have worked out. but about 1 out of 10 works out.

They'll all have a head on their shoulders..... the problem is that most of them have their shoulders tucked tightly against the Butt cheeks and their head......well you get the picture.
