Recently was pumping and finishing a slab with a rebar mat that was installed on 12 inch centers and was told we could not stand on the rebar, my question is , has anyone ever experienced this ? And how am I supposed to place and finish concrete if I cannot stand on the rebar mat ? This was told to me by one of the biggest GCs in North America , and when I was told this at first I thought it was a joke , but they were very serious and actually ran our company off the project by not adhering to the policy , I have sent letters of disbelief and the absurdness of this with no reply so far , I would think maybe their would be some type of system for this circumstance , like using a bidwell screed and limiting the number of finishers on the mat , but do not see the ability to stay off completely .

I would have the GC send a RFI to the arcitect before the pour . Your rep should have seen the problems with the pour .

my rep or anyone within our organization was not made aware of the no standing on mat policy until we had made 2-3 pours on these slabs , then it was not brought up in meetings or prepour meetings , it was brought up as we started a pour with concrete on the job.

Shaw does it some, but they put a double layer of wire mesh on top of rebar mat so the holes aren't so much risk of falling through

I understand the wire mesh on mat pours . Can't understand why beast was kick off the job after two pours as nothing was said in the meetings as being unsafe.

this is not a mat pour, we are talking 8" thick warehouse slab that the mat in my opinion was not chaired properly , I understand what Joel is saying we do that also on deep mat pours with the wire mesh , but what I am talking about is the mat was tied to dowel pins that ran thru keyway and when walking on the mat that was on 12" centers it would change the elevations of the keyway , unless you have a floating work platform I do not see a way to feasibly make the pours. And I have made mat pours for Shaw , the GC that was over the project and the QC I was working for is by far the worst I've seen as far as being able to work with , no common sense what so ever . And did not want to hear that the problem was in the installation of rebar and the system they were using.

Sounds like these guys have NO IDEE what they are doing. Did they ever see a poor happening? Maybe best to dump a customer like this before they really go mad Wink
