volume or pressure

It seems that 3 out of 4 pumps at our yard are plumbed for pressure ,head side, and the pump I currently run is plumbed for volume or rod side. All Schwings years from 02-15.Why would the majority of these pumps be plumbed for pressure when 99.5% of there work is a 5 inch hose.

proberly , because schwings run at a higher rev limit, so if you had high volume it would not pump as well, so high pressure will pump better because you have more rev,s on it

It is all about strokes per minute and volume . What pump kit do you have ?

It's my understanding that you are not supposed to pump thru the boom on the the high pressure side. Check with manufacturer.

This is what I see.......1 truck 03 schwing 2025/4 pump kit, loop oil line on top of drive cylinders          The 3 other trucks are 02,06,and 15 with same pump kit but loop oil line on bottom of drive cylinders

Loop line is your make up side of the diff. cylinders . Up top you are on rod side low pressure , Down low by the water box you are piston side high pressure. No pumping on pressure side deals with burst pressure on boom pipe . If your pumping a 30 story building threw the boom and 300 feet of vertical pipe switch to low side. out of the boom your good to go. And you can always changed over to high or low just moving the hoses around.

dlee,

there is alittle more involved than just moving hoses around, if you wnat to switch from rod to piston side. also, when plumped on piston side, you definatley CAN pump though the boom, otherwise, at times, you may not be pumping at all, especially with a long  boom. on rod side, you dont get the volume output, but on the other hand, chances are, that with the supply of concrete, you probably run out of concrete

The boom pipe is rated for 85 BAR. If you put a boom pump on HP, you are definately pumping over the pressure rating of the boom pipe and clamps. No standard metric boom pipe with raised ends is rated over 85 BAR. You are opening yourself for huge liability issues by pumping through your boom on HP.

Schwing must plumb there pumps different

Who the hell would pump a 30 story building thru a stand pipe using the boom is what I would like to know..  someone that doesn't know any better.  Some times the stuff I hear on this site just blows my mind.  Dammit boy!!

A bad post on my part. Just trying to explain the differance between high and low side .

Bisley, the boom is used on the Other end of the stand pipe for that application. Switching a pump to high side (piston side) is pretty common on placing boom applications. The face pressure is greatly reduced depending on how much system and vertical back pressure is applied. Most stand pipe cases, the face pressure on the boom pipe is well below the max by the time it gets all the way to the boom.

Microsoft project in Redmond WA was an 800' push! With a 32m detach placing boom, had to switch it to high side every pour just to make that long of a push and pump at an acceptable rate. The SeaTac airport parking garage expansion wasn't a very long or verical push, it was just an extremely abrasive and difficult mix to pump. Had to switch to high side on every deck pour on that job too. It's also common for shotcrete/gunite pumps to be on the high side, its the only way a lot of smaller trailer pumps will push the low slump required for shotcreters.

Could possibly have to do with what area those pumps work in, what part of the cpuntry, geographically. If they're anywhere in the south east that's possibly the only way they can pump that coarse angular crushed shit! I've seen a couple pump from GA & Tenn that were were plumbed on the high side because they had to be to pump the concrete in that region.

hes in south louisiana , I do believe , most of ours are plumbed for volume , maybe they were on a project with a harsh mix and swapped them I know I have a few right now and it's tough on the schwings , putzmeisters eat the shit up
